I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted here and I only do so when I get a lot of mail concerning the same subject. Instead of replying to every email it is easier to just post here for all to see.
This post serves as notification that in 3 days from today the youtube channel of me on Leah’s page will be deleted. If you want any of the songs that are posted there then you should download them now.
As many of you know Leah does PR for me and her firm has sponsored my past tours. She has always wanted me to do social media to promote myself which I have always refused to do. Anyway, many moons ago she made a bet with me that if she put some live videos of me on her page that she was certain there would be over a million views on any that she uploaded. She handles many other artists who have channels on her page and she figured that everyone would benefit from it. I told her I would think about it but then purposely forgot about it! Well she did put up a channel on me without my knowledge or consent, which I was just recently made aware of.
I was pretty shocked when I saw that there were over 20 million views on the 19 vids that she put up. Some of you are aware about how I feel about numbers when it comes to social media. They have equated numbers and popularity with being good. Numbers and popularity do not make something good. If a million people think something is good it does not make it better than it already is. All the numbers do is get some corporate entity involved in order to merchandise you so that you become a commodity that is bought and sold like toilet paper. When they are done using you and your benefit to them is over then you end up where all used toilet paper goes.
On all these social media sites most people only care about how many likes or views or friends or followers they have. They somehow derive their self worth by these numbers. It is a very sad commentary to say the least…but I digress.
I have asked Leah to delete my channel, as I will never succumb to this idiocracy. I enjoy my anonymity and I will not engage in the hypocrisy of this faithless era.
